Hello Smile

My backlight install is pretty good until pressure is applied when trying to fit the gameboy back together. I found out after some trial that it is pressure upon the screen connector on the other pcb that causes the problem. It is like details turn black, Mario becomes a shadow for example. I did slightly melt the plastic on the connector while trying to install bivert modchip which I am leaving for now after filing that. The backlight does make the screen pop out a bit over the plastic frame so I'm wondering wether that is the problem and I've also noticed screwing in the pcb is not as flush as before. It is an aftermarket case but I have used it before the screen mod.

Any ideas what I can do about this? I'm a bit lost and have a headache. If anyone has any clue what I can do please I'd be grateful.

And thanks for the new forum (just in time) cheers

Most likely the plastic housing is giving you trouble. The backlights fit into place without any compression ALTHOUGH, the ribbon cable under the LCD adds that sliver of thickness to the plastic frame. Cut the frame with an X-acto knife right at the arm to give this room and presto! absolutely NO compression whatsoever.

I've noticed a similar issue where certain areas of my screen (top left and right corner and across the bottom) seems to discolour a little.  If this is due to pressure, I may need to take a look inside.

Thanks for the advice admin. I spent the better part of a Saturday deep inside my gameboy lol I've still got the old manky shell I could check the fitting in Idea or/and I'll try your cutting Twisted Evil out friday I think and update my progress.

I tried cutting a piece out of the plastic screen surround, but it didnt make any difference to the bottom of the screen.
I think the discolouration at the top is due to extra pressure from the bivert module. The ribbon cable presses against it which results in more pressure against the screen.

I have more backlights arriving this week hopefully, so I will test this with a standard bivert chip (using wires) and see if it makes a difference.

Maybe. The uniformity on the panel can only get so good. The light distribution is the best out there but still the technology makes for an imperfect distribution of light.
